Fault Tree Analysis
Deskripsi: FTA digunakan dalam safety dan penyelesaian masalah reliabilitas. FTA mencakup penyelesaian masalah deduktif untuk memahami konsekuensi dari suatu event.
Proses: Model FTA bekerja mundur (backward) untuk memahami dan mendeduksi apa yang menyebabkan suatu event. Proses mengikuti tahap-tahap:
- Mendefinisikan event yang tidak diinginkan;
- Mengidentifikasi penyebab-penyebab langsung dari suatu event;
- Melanjutkan analisa identifikasi penyebab-penyebab hingga basis dan penyebab akar diidentifikasi
- Menciptakan suatu diagram logis yang menunjukkan hubungan event yang logis
Pemakaian: FTA digunakan di safety, desain, konstruksi, dan pembuatan software.
Kekuatan dan Kelemahan: Kekuatan FTA meliputi:
- Identifikasi metoda atas bawah hubungan-hubungan berbeda;
- Identifikasi penyebab2 dasar menuju ke event puncak;
- Mengikuti analisa sistematis logika risiko untuk mengidentifikasi penyebab2 fundamental;
- Identifikasi penyebab2 kegagalan;
- Identifikasi kelemahan dan sistem yang kompleks;
- Memprioritaskan penyebab2 kegagalan;
- Menyediakan analisa kualitatif dan kuantitatif pada event puncak
Kelemahan FTA meliputi:
- Dapat menyebabkan ujung buntu karena analisa melihat mundur;
- Dapat menyebabkan hubungan kompleks antara penyebab dan event;
- Mengidentifikasi penyebab2 dasar dengan salah

Metoda Life Cycle Inventory (LCI)
Langkah LCI dalam standar ISO 14040 dan 14044 meliputi kompilasi dan kuantifikasi data masukan/ keluaran bagi suatu sistem produk yang diberikan sepanjang daur hidupnya. LCI merupakan bagian studi LCA yang paling menghabiskan waktu, kompleks dan menuntut sumber daya dan oleh karenanya fasa yang sangat kritis dalam seluruh aktivitas LCA, seperti tingkatan kuantifikasi masukan dan keluaran secara langsung mengikuti analisa dampak dan interpretasi kegiatan-kegiatan. Pengumpulan produksi senyawa kimia dalam LCI dapat sangat kompleks dan menantang. Beberapa metoda telah diusulkan dalam beberapa decade supaya ada proses inventori.
Suh dan Huppes (2005) dalam Maranghi dan Brondi (2020) mengidentifikasi tiga tipe pendekatan, misalnya, komputasi, analisa EIO (Economi Input Output) dan kombinasi dari dua pendekatan ini.
- Diagram alir proses adalah tertua dan praktek paling umum dalam kompilasi LCI dengan menunjukkan bagaimana proses suatu sistem produk terinterkoneksi melalui aliran-aliran komoditas.
- Representasi matrik dimana suatu sistem persamaan linear digunakan untuk menyelesaikan masalah inventori (Suh dan Huppes (2005) dalam Maranghi dan Brondi (2020))
- Hibrida mengaitkan berbasis-proses dan analisa EIO dan mengupayakan untuk mengeksploitasi kekuatan dan keunggulan dari masing-masing dua pendekatan ini.
William et al et al. (2009) mengenalkan nomenklatur yang berbeda, membedakan menjadi pendekatan ‘bottom-up’, top down dan hybrid.
- Bottom Up adalah setiap proses sepanjang rantai pasok produk dideskripsikan dalam arti masukan dan keluaran yang sesuai. Pendekatan ini bergerak dari tingkatan paling detil dengan mengidentifikasi kegiatan transformasi paling kecil secara bertahap digabung dengan proses-proses lain menuju paling transformasi proses paling besar.
Pengambilan Data Langsung. Kompilasi LCI dengan pendekatan ini membutuhkan kompilasi informasi kuantitatif tentang masukan dan keluaran dari satu unit proses ke unit proses. Koleksi data dilakukan di lokasi produksi/ manufaktur yang berarti data mentah di pabrik dan merubahnya menjadi entri inventori (masukan material dan energi, ko-produk, emisi, aliran limbah). Data mentah di fasilitas dapat diperoleh dari beberapa sumber-sumber relevan, misalnya, dari bill of material, data pemantauan proses, kuesioner atau survai ke personil pabrik dan melakukan pengukuran lapangan.
Metoda Berbasis Proses. Metoda berbasis proses berfokus pada proses produksi untuk memperoleh data inventori terkait dengan produksi pada senyawa kimia tertentu.
